Allan Chochinov Lecture [event]

Allan Chochinov
presented by IDSA Atlanta and the Museum of Design Atlanta

"As designers confront a future of growing consumer demand for designed artifacts, along with a frightening increase in the environmental, social, and economic consequences of producing, distributing, and using those artifacts, there is an urgent need to reassess the real imperatives and mandates of design. Classically viewed as a way to problem solve in the built environment, the discipline of design is now seen as a methodology for creating value—through artifacts, systems, brands, and services. But what is the role of the contemporary designer amidst all of these demands, and how do we reconcile the tensions between consumption, need, and delight?"

This September, the IDSA Atlanta Chapter will be hosting a very special presentation by New York-based designer/educator Allan Chochinov. He serves as editor in chief of Core77.com, one of the most widely read websites in the world focused on product design, Coroflot.com and DesignDirectory.com. Allan writes and lectures widely on the impact of design on contemporary culture, and teaches in the graduate departments of Pratt Institute and the School of Visual Arts in New York City.
