December Studio Tour & Talk

"Designer+Entrepreneur"
Studio Tour and Talk @ Big Bang

presented by IDSA Atlanta and Big Bang

Big Bang opens its doors for the December Studio Tour & Talk.

In times of economic uncertainty and scarce resources, the best way to bring a concept to market may be to take it there yourself. How can designers do more to develop, and market their work? Relax, share, and network with other Atlanta Chapter members, then listen-in as Big Bang's Devin Moore, with guest Maureen Carroll of Creature LLC compare business frameworks and share lessons learned in the realm of entrepreneurial design.

Big Bang was onto something... "28 months ago Big Bang had the idea of combining their experience with LED’s and the dental market and applying it to the unmet needs of dentists and hygienists. The market and product category, operatory lighting, was ripe for innovation. Though the business model evolved, the production light is much like the original sketch that got everyone excited. Introduced in September at the California dental Show, Everlight™, invented, designed, and engineered by Big Bang and distributed by DentalEz, has generated great interest to national and international dental community."

Opportunity knocked at Creature LLC..."Nintendo’s Wii™ and Wii Fit™ popularized games that promote social interaction and physical activity. When entrepreneur Paul Holcomb approached Creature with an idea for dumbbells to fit the Wii controllers and enable a true resistance workout, we jumped on board! Together with Paul and Enginuity Works we founded a new company focused on new gaming experiences: Power Play Corporation. Since then our team has developed the Riiflex™ dumbbells, introduced them at the E3 Gaming Expo, kicked off production, reorganized the company, begun follow-on products, and learned what’s really involved with bringing a product to market."

Comments from the Judges...

Wii Care
"This project probes the possibilities found in the Wii-elderly interaction. The problem statement points out the pertinent issue of the loss of connectivity within in a otherwise hyper-connected society. I enjoyed the thorough exploration and depth in this solution. Very solid presentation, great sketches." - Collin Farill, Big Bang

Shall Wii Dance
"ShallWiiDance takes an activity that is pretty popular with an older audience, and makes it more danceable and age-appropriate than games like Dance Dance Revolution. Plus you can see more that could be done with motion-capture." - Maureen Carroll, Creature LLC

Wii Travel
"The sense of adventure and stimulation this provides should encourage users, while educating them and helping them feel connected. Especially good for those who are restricted to a bed or have limited opportunity to leave the house." - Wesley Barker, Clarity
